CRYSTAL BASIN TACKLE AND GUIDE SERVICE

How did Crystal Basin Tackle come about? I have been lucky enough to have had two grandfathers that played a big part in pointing me in the direction of the outdoors. One of them was even a charter boat captain in the great lakes area. I got started fishing at the very young age of 3 and have been fishing ever since. I started building my own tackle at about 6 and started making it for friends and family shortly thereafter. It was not until about 1999 that I went into business.

The name came about from the Crystal Basin Lakes that I fished so much as a kid--and still do. Also, it was a place that I spent a lot of time with my grandparents. So in a way the business is a tribute to them and the love for fishing and hunting that they instilled in me. I also spent a lot of time on the  American and Sacramento river salmon fishing in the fall with my friends and my grandfather. So I guess you could say that I have grown up with a fishing rod in hand.

As my business grew and the demand for a full time guide service increased, I took on the task of becoming a Coast Guard licensed captain. Fortunately, I was Pro Staff for several great companies, and that helped make it possible. I am now following in the footsteps of my family, adding another generation of guides. Some day I hope that all of this will become my daughter's company, and she will share my passion. She is young, but is always willing to help with what needs to be done. She comes up with things on her own too.

As for the tackle, everything we manufacture is tested all over the country by a select few--our Pro Staff. We don't just ask any person to become part of this group. Each person is selected because they are a good person, a good fisherman, and are willing to share their success. When I think of adding somebody to our staff, I talk it over with our head of Pro Staff to see if they would be a good fit. Some of them are guides and/or tournament fisherman, but they all are respected in the fishing community. These are the folks that we send out our new products to and get ideas from. We all fish the new tackle for a year, maybe two, to make it right before we produce it for sale. We all take great pride in bringing you some of the best cutting edge equipment possible. We also take pride in our originality, from the paint work to how it fishes and the fact that it is all hand built.

We hope this gives you a better understanding of who Crystal Basin Tackle is and where we come from and look forward to seeing you out on the water or even book a trip with us on the many places we have to offer.
